Federico Maria Sardelli

Is a Florence based  Italian conductorHistoricist composermusicologistand flautist. He is the founder of the baroque orchestra Modo Antiquo and has made more than forty recordings as soloist and conductor, some of them in co-production with the German broadcast company Westdeutscher Rundfunk.

This month Federico is still raising money through crowdfunding to cover the cost of recording and producing a CD  of his own Sacred Music. We were only small time investors but thanks to our contribution my friend Barbara and I were invited to go along to listen to the group recording in a small church in Piazza SS.Annunciata .

Snippet from last weeks recording

Not only were we privileged to watch the work in progress – we also had the pleasure of enjoying our experience in a rarely open Florentine church which is usually used privately by the Monks closeted close by.

The choir was brought in complete with choir master who initially encouraged them from a pew opposite but ultimately couldn’t resist joining his voice with theirs – it was spine-tingling to see and hear the performance live in those beautiful surrounding with incredible accoustics.

To share the experience with you Federico has given me a link to a small video clip on you-tube – Enjoy!

At the moment Federico is hard at work editing and reviewing this music but this is still expensive work so if you like this music and would like to help get it released by the target date of October 2014 it is possible to keep donating at www.gofundme.com.sacredmusic

Please note that by clicking onto Federico’s YouTube page you can browse and enjoy plenty of other snippets of work by Modo Antiquo

For those who will be in Florence next month Federico and many other local artists will also be presenting some of their paintings at the forthcoming exhibition in the Jules Maidoff Gallery. This exhibition forms part of the Festa di San Giovanni Battista – the Patron Saint of Florence. The art exhibition opens on 29th May and closes on 26th June.

Federico Maria Sardelli will also be present at the San Giovanni Battista Conference on 20th June 2014 at the British Institute on Lungarno Guicciardini where some audio tracks and a video of the recording session will be previewed .

He is also conducting the Opera Orfeo ed Euridice at the Pergola Theatre on June 10th 2014 – rehearsal photos look interesting – conducting with a pencil!
