Scott and Alan review their mornings work
Our Easter weekend was spent in the gardens of the Hotel Villa Le Rondini – learning how to paint the impression of Florence shimmering in the far distance with a teacher from the Florence Academy – Alan Lawson.
The sound of the rain on the roof overnight did not bode well and I began the day full of concern that our promised beautiful view would be a washout. Fortunately the god of painters was on our side and as we started to get our paints out a misty sun broke through the clouds and developed into a perfect day – not too hot, not too bright and no fast moving cloud shadows.
Our view just got better and better as the morning progressed.
Alan is a clear teacher – he knew what he expected us to achieve and we worked without a break before lunch to achieve it – but we were very happy painting and learnt a lot about tonal values and cromer (colour). Scott , shown on the photo above, usually paints with acrylic but was very excited by the possibilities with the new medium and is looking forward to learning more. I just enjoyed the opportunity to paint again!
Our lunch was provided at the Hotel Villa le Rondini whose grounds we were using for the course – their views are legendary and we all loved them!
Our next session with Alan is scheduled for either 14-15 May when we hope other painters – whether beginners or experienced will join us in the magical City of Florence.
