Also designed and developed by Cacil Pinsent Le Balze is the architect’s only complete House and garden in Italy. Given pretty much free rein by grieving widower Charles Strong – Pinsent set about earth-moving with a will and created a series of buttressed terraces to support the house, two gardens, a grotto and a large olive grove.
Like Cosimo de Medici Charles Strong also found comfort in the St Jerome Monastery above the two adjacent properties Le Balze and Villa Medici.
Incidently look out for the St Jerome Monastery if you ever watch the film of Michael Ondaatje novel – The English Patient.
