Just a quick update to say that I ran the Beverley Brook part of Richmond Park yesterday – only pausing to take a photo to prove I was there!

I am sure you will agree that it is a lot prettier in the park than from the roadside!

Another feature of Richmond park – occasionally annoying as they make such a cackle – is the flocks of cockatiels!

This little group were feeling very frisky in the cold morning sun but were interested enough in me to wathc while I took their photo!!

Just why do we have so many brightly coloured birds in south London?

Some people claim they are all descended from a breeding pair that escaped but a more colourful story is that they were used at Shepperton Studios in the filming of The African Queen with  Humphey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn – and at the end of the shoot rather than destroying them the producers let them loose to take their chances – and they thrived – rather too successfully some might say!
