Having spent a day studying fresco painting and fresco on Sunday I suppose I was a bit more alert to the art when I suddenly spotted this, in a wine door, in the middle of Florence.

Wine doors used to be used for off-sales from the big family Palazzo’s when they had left over wine ( left-over wine?) to spare and share! Some of them even still have their opening hours written around their panels

These days they are often cemented over and clearly someone has decided to try out their fresco skills in this ideal framed space- but I wonder when?

These buildings have been there for 400- 500 years – more or less – and fresco can easily last 2000 years – or even 19,000 years if hidden deep in a cave at Lascaux 

 So here are the buildings that were painted from the little passage where the fresco was found – I wonder if it was done 200 years ago? – or last week!
